Local action for the rights of ecosystems – a democracy issue

Over 200 local communities in the US have created local ordinances to grant rights to ecosystems and communities, rights that takes precedence over corporate rights to exploit. Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, CELDF, have been part of most of these cases. Mari Margil from CELDF explains through Skype how they work, followed by a discussion on implementation in Sweden. Mari was also part of developing Ecuadors constitution and a political platform for the rights of nature together with the Green Party i England och Wales. Serien ”Earth Rights Conversations” i höst

Tillsammans med Latinamerikagrupperna och Lodyn arrangerar End Ecocide Sverige Earth Rights Conversations, en rad kvällsseminarier under hösten. Naturens rättigheter är en av de mest intressanta idéerna för ett samhälle i samspel med ekosystemen. Nu växer en rörelse för att erkänna naturens rättigheter på många håll i världen, och vi vill fördjupa och utveckla samtalet.
